How to make a tiki

I am fascinated by tikis. An artist will literally carve life into this slab of wood. What’s more incredible is watching the creationof the tiki. The artist below is Jesse Wilhelm of Largo. He is one of the members of the Creative Native Gallery in Tampa, FL.  Jesse’s ‘forte  is painting murals and faux finishing, but you wouldn’t know that by watching him carve cedar. His technique is to first outline the design on the log,  then chainsaw the outline. and finally shape what’s left with an angle grinder. The results are well, breathtaking. This was one of Florida’s early cool days so it was very nice to be outside.  Here are some photos of the day. A wonderful time was had by all.
